Operation “Recovery” following: the NATO spokesperson responds

(BRUXELLES2) James Appathurai, NATO spokesman, commented on my previous post (read: NATO's operation "recovery" against pirates in Somalia). He denies the existence of a competition between the two organizations (NATO and the European Union) or that NATO is looking for a new "raison d'être", particularly in Somalia. It is an operation "decided by the same governments that are members of the EU", he recalls. There exists a "full complementarity" with the Union. He also assures NATO's deep "support" for the "full and complete" development of the ESDP."What is good for the Union is good for transatlantic relations and also for NATO" he clarifies. He also comments on the situation in Afghanistan - citing the commitment of the Member States -. You can listen to him on Nato Channel Tv
