The Ten Principles of War Propaganda

(BRUSSELS2) Whether in Georgia this summer 2008, or in Afghanistan or Gaza more recently, we are seeing a return to the good old methods of providing very "oriented"... he should reread this little book published by Labor in 2002, which summarizes, from the pen of Anne Morelli, researcher at the ULB, the "basic principles of war propaganda".

Principles inspired by the work published in London, in... 1928, by Arthur Ponsonby, "Falsehood in Wartime". Rather atypical English Lord, Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, then leader of the Labor opposition in the House of Lords, he broke with Labor in 1940, to remain faithful to his peaceful convictions. Even if one can not to agree with all the elements of this small work It is interesting today to remember the ten principles which it mentions.

  • 1. "We don't want war".
  • 2. "The opposing side is solely responsible for the war".
  • 3. "The enemy has the face of the devil".
  • 4. "It is a noble cause that we defend and not special interests".
  • 5. "The enemy knowingly causes atrocities; we commit mistakes but involuntarily".
  • 6. "The enemy uses unauthorized weapons".
  • 7. "We suffer very few losses, the enemy's losses are enormous".
  • 8. "Artists and intellectuals support our cause".
  • 9. "Our cause is sacred."
  • 10. "Those who question the propaganda are traitors".
