Short Film Festival: our good points

(B2) At the 2008 Short Film Festival, three films that deserve special mention and two series not to be missed next year or on another occasion:

  1. "Margot", an animated film by Belgian Gerlando Infuso (Ateliers de la Cambre). Margot has been freezing to death since the untimely death of her lover - whom she murdered? - and sinks into a sad madness. A bittersweet film, imbued with great poetry.
  2. "Last trip", by Pierre Duculot (interview on Cinergie) when Grandma threatens to take the gun on the left to torpedo the holidays of her children, who only dream of one thing - that she is dying - and ends up deciding to go on vacation to the Moroccan village of origin of his nurse.
  3. "Salvador" by Abdelatif Hwidar, in the UIP awards selection - tells the story of an innocent and ordinary game of a child who plays hide and seek in a Madrid metro one day in March 2004. Or when life hangs in the balance thread and child's play...

The "Great Directors" series, which covers short films made by directors who are now very well known, was naturally worth the detour. And especially "The cow boy and the french man" by David Lynch, excellent in its satire of both westerns and French, hilarious... yes yes

Finally, the “Short but trashy” series. Small films made without a lot of means, but often with lots of ideas, and never boring, even if everything is not perfect from a technical point of view. Ma8thias Desmarres' documentary on a centenarian who regularly plays scrabble is a trap for smiles. Or Miss Wendy's pretty vamp childbirth. As for Miss Trash's method of extolling the benefits of... being sodomized, it deserves a detour. Sessions regularly at Riches Claires, in the center of Brussels (see their blog).
