The law enforcement units therefore did not need to intervene. And everyone returned to their camp, rage within, but with the feeling of patriotic duty accomplished. The last votes in the parliamentary committees on Wednesday, after the last hearings, prove it, the armistice is signed. The studded sticks and spears, sharpened all last week, ended in a great fire of reconciliation. The mortars and other AK47s have been carefully stored in the drawers (you never know, it may be useful :-).
A discrete interposition and pacification unit has been deployed, with emissaries in each camp. The hostages were released, all in good health, and an expiatory victim was found, also allowing the European Parliament to prove that this exercise was not in vain...
A real pitched battle
In the battle that started all last week, each side had used different stratagems. The left using its favorite tactic, the guerrilla. Leaning on the opponent's weaknesses, coming out of the woods when necessary, she returned to her camp every evening with the catch of the day. In the end, four hostages in his bag: the Hungarian Tibor Navracsics (PPE), the Spaniard Miguel Arias Cañete (PPE), the Czech Vera Jourova (Lib) and the Briton Jonathan Hill (ECR). The right has used another, more targeted strategy: the concentration of means, with intensive bombardment, framed and programmed on a single strategic target: the Frenchman Pierre Moscovici, a master piece of the Juncker device, discussed and disputed, because in charge of the portfolio of Ecofin. All hostages released
The chase between the left and the right to catch "hostages" finally ended without too much damage. All hostages were released in good health. The Spaniard Arias Cañete is received with honors for the charge of Energy by 77 votes against 48 (despite a somewhat muddled declaration of interests). And the Frenchman Pierre Moscovici was finally endorsed without firing a shot (without a vote) as was Jonathan Hill. All hostages are released. All... except one.
Being alone: a big flaw
In the end, there is only one victim, in a way, by collateral fire: the Slovenian Alenka Bratusek, who did not manage to pass through the barrage. By 112 votes against 13, MEPs from the Industry-Energy and Environment committees, there is not the shadow of a doubt. It is almost unanimous.
He is accused of a patent lack of knowledge of the subjects, his hearing has proven it. But we don't really have the choice of a second audition like Jonathan Hill. Another criticism: having self-propelled commissioner when she was Prime Minister. On the merits, it must also be considered that his function (vice president in charge of Climate and Energy) does a little duplication with that of the Commissioner for Energy. But above all, she was not supported by any tribe, any faction, in the European Parliament. She was alone...
Nobody paid the ransom. 🙂 And that, in the European Parliament, as in a Libyan desert, a Somali oasis or a Congolese forest, is deadly.
