Extension of the mission in Iraq

(BRUSSELS2) The 27 must officially confirm in the coming days the extension of the European Union mission in Iraq responsible for training police officers, judges and prison guards until June 2010 (the Cops approved this extension last week ). Since it was set up four years ago, almost 2000 people have been trained, mainly through internships and practical demonstrations that take place in one of the countries of the European Union. This civilian mission had sealed the unity of the 27 on the need or not to intervene in Iraq. And it could find new life within a few months after the departure of the Americans. The reinforcement of its staff as well as the extension of its tasks is under study.
