Niamey and Agadez (Niger). EUCAP Sahel Niger training sessions are in full swing

Training was provided by EUCAP Sahel Niger experts in early September to 13 permanent trainers from the National Gendarmerie School in Niamey on "Professional Intervention Techniques". Training that allows you to acquire technical know-how while respecting the legal framework and the use of strictly necessary force. In Agadez, training in "vehicle fleet management" was given by the Europeans on 15 and 16 September. This was the third training session of the module in question, which was attended by 10 Gendarmerie mechanics and 7 National Guard mechanics from all regions. This training is complementary to the previous activities of the mission in favor of the automotive workshops of the various forces which have made it possible to strengthen their capacities in terms of maintenance through the supply of high-performance tools.

The EUNAVFOR Atalanta operation continues its training actions. Tiraspol (Transnistria) EUBAM Moldova-Ukraine prepares actions for 2016-17

Participants at the 58th meeting for the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Ergneti, noted that the security situation remains “ stable ».

Specific incidents along the administrative border were reviewed. All parties have committed to increase vigilance and to intensify the exchange of information relevant to forest fires.

Mediterranean. Rescues at sea: 1.000 additional migrants saved

Early in the morning of September 19, two ships of Operation EUNAVFOR Med (the German frigate Schleswig-Holstein and his British counterpart HMS Enterprise), with the help of a British Merlin helicopter, carried out a coordinated rescue operation on 3 different vessels, rescuing 767 people. Ships in distress were made of wood or rubber. All came from the port of Zuwarah, only 20 minutes away. On the night of September 26 and 27, 251 migrants were saved from a probable shipwreck. Both actions were carried out under the coordination of the International Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (IMRCC) in Rome.
