Sacred Union in Northern Ireland after the murder of Lyra McKee
(B2) Following the death of journalist Lyra McKee on the streets of Londonderry on Thursday night, representatives of Northern Ireland's main parties, from left-wing Sinn Fein nationalists to DUP Unionists to Conservatives and Greens , appealed for calm ahead of the Easter holiday, condemning the murder in the "strongest possible terms".
The " Lyra's murder is also an attack against the whole population, an attack against the peace and democratic process they write. " We are united in rejection of those responsible for this heinous crime. [...] We reiterate our support for the PSNI [Northern Ireland Police], who in performing their duties were also targeted in last night's attack. »
According to the police chief, Mark Hamilton" a single gunman fired shots in a residential area. Mrs. McKee was injured. She died of her injuries » A murder investigation has been opened, the head of the PSNI “ calling on anyone with information to call the police ».

NB: This event highlights how important the Good Friday agreements are (1). And that it is important not to weaken them. Brexit negotiators on the London side should be more aware of this.
