Withdrawal from Afghanistan: Obama and me
(BRUXELLES2, sommet européen) Répondant aux questions des journalistes sur l’Afghanistan, le président français Nicolas Sarkozy n’a eu de cesse que de convaincre que la décision française qui a suivi les Américains était une décision concertée avec son homologue américain, « well thought out, perfectly organized ". " Nous sommes des alliés, Obama et moi on en parle (…) Avec Obama, nous avons fait la même analyse : la mort de Ben Laden, le transfert aux autorités afghanes qui fonctionne bien, la situation sécuritaire qui s’améliore…. Il fallait en tirer conséquences et ramener à la maison un certain nombre de soldats. Nous avons ainsi décidé ensemble et en toute transparence. » Et d’ajouter : « D’ici la fin de l’année un certain nombre de soldats rentreront en France. Il s’agira ensuite décider du retrait définitif, 2014.

Selon un proche de l’Elysée, qui a répondu à une question de B2, le retrait sera dans la même proportion que le retrait américain, c’est-à-dire, atteindre environ un quart de l’effectif présent (soit 1000 soldats). Ceux qui critiquent aujourd’hui auraient pu soit de ne pas les envoyer, soit décider de les ramener ».
Commentaire : l’insistance du président français sur la concertation avec le président Obama (à plusieurs reprises, on voit citer “Obama et moi”… “Nous…”) ne cache pas cependant que la décision américaine n’a pas été vraiment concertée avec les alliés. Quant à l’argumentaire sur l’engagement des troupes en Afghanistan paraît un peu léger et contradictoire. Car entre 2001 ou 2004 et 2010 ou 2011, certaines circonstances ont changé.
