Pooling and sharing, a few favorite areas

(BRUSSELS2) The Polish Presidency of the European Union intends to present concrete initiatives. A review of the different possibilities is planned around September – October. We are already identifying certain areas where this pooling could be easier to carry out and more profitable.

1° education and training - a sector where one can, quite easily, save money and where many capacities exist.

2° Strategic transport, an expensive area in which capacities are lacking: it is a question of seeing what additional things can be done, apart from already existing agreements such as Salis (very expensive) or EATC (restricted to 4 countries for the instant.

3° Medical support: a “rare and sophisticated resource. Very few countries (United Kingdom, France, Germany, etc.) have operational capabilities and use in theaters of operation requires real technicality. It is a “natural cooperation” option.

4° Helicopters: the concept of a multinational unit is a long-term objective, but it is necessary to study intermediate, pragmatic stages. A seminar is taking place on this subject in Krakow at the beginning of September.
