The Seminarians of the Weimar Triangle

(BRUSSELS2) After a first seminar, organized in Ulm (Germany), on command structures, two other seminars for the countries of the "Weimar Triangle" are being organized in the coming days: one on battlegroups on July 5 at the Palais d 'Egmont (Brussels) by the Polish Presidency of the EU, the other on pooling in Paris on 13 July.

Battlegroups

Organized by the Polish Ministry of Defense together with the Egmont Research Institute, the main objective of this seminar is “ to initiate a direct and open discussion on how to improve the flexibility and usefulness of Battlegroups, thus enabling a more effective response to threats and meeting the expectations of the EU as a global partner ". It is a question of seeing how to improve the military capabilities of the Battlegroups and their participation in civil-military activities, what are the practical problems that arise (transport, logistics, joint financing, etc.). In particular, the countries which had, in 2004, proposed the concept of Battlegroups (France, Germany, United Kingdom) are invited, as well as Sweden, which during its presidency had made proposals for improving the functioning of battlegroups.

And the pooling

On July 13, it will be around France - and Paris - to host, on the eve of the parade of July 14, to which some of the participants will be invited, a seminar on pooling and sharing. Pardon :-), the title of the seminar is (in French): “ pooling and cooperation: a challenge with no alternative ". The objective of the organizers is to be able to propose concrete avenues for relaunching European cooperation in matters of defense capabilities ". After an introduction by the French Defense Minister, Gérard Longuet, the "seminarians" will be able to follow three panels: the first on "The need to cooperate: doing more and better with less means doing together", the second on "Cooperation: what obstacles must be removed?" with concrete cases such as cooperation within the Visegrad countries or EATC. After a lunch in the form of an alert on "The risk of strategic downgrading of Europe", the last panel of the day will be devoted to "key factors of success?". Note the participation of two representatives of the German and Polish governments, Christian Schmidt and Zbigniew Wlosowicz.
