[In brief] A new pirate attack foiled

(B2) The Indian navy foiled this Friday (February 2) a new piracy attempt in eastern Somalia.

Attacked during the night from Wednesday to Thursday (January 31), the FV Omari, an Iranian-flagged fishing vessel, was captured by pirates in the Gulf of Aden, at 14°13 North and 42°30 East. He was first located by a patrol plane, which was conducting surveillance in the area. Before the Indian high seas patrol vessel INS Sharada intervened. The crew members, 11 Iranians and 8 Pakistanis, were released.
