« On Friday [August 13], according to all available information, including intelligence data, we worked with the fact that we have time to evacuate by the end of September. We were talking on Saturday  of the end of August, by which time the Taliban could reach Kabul. The fact that it finally burst there on Monday  is clear evidence of the dynamics of the evolving situation. Either the information did not circulate well between the allies, or there was a big bug somewhere (on the American side in particular), or there was an increase in optimism and collective auto-intoxication. Or all three at the same time...
