The Grace A inspected by Operation Irini

(B2) The visiting team of ITS Borsini (P-491), the Italian Navy's high seas patrol vessel, boarded the Grace A, a cargo ship flying the flag of Cameroon, off the coast of Libya, last Friday (19.03). Objective: to check that the ship was not in violation of the international arms embargo on Libya.

The cargo had left the port of Nemrut (Turkey) bound for Misrata, a port under the authority of the forces of the GNA (the government of national unity). " Nothing suspicious was found on this occasion. And the ship was allowed to proceed says Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative, in a tweet. The head of European diplomacy was able to attend the inspection almost live, having visited the operation's headquarters. This is the ninth inspection carried out by Operation IRINI for a year. NB: The 'Grace A' is an old customer of the European navies. A year ago, suspicions arose about the possibility that the 'Thanks to' be used to transport Turkish military equipment to the government in Tripoli in Libya, in violation of the arms embargo imposed on the country. At least that's what Greek intelligence sources had told their European counterparts according to the daily ekathimerini.
