[In brief] Latest assessment of maritime piracy

(B2) The total number of events related to maritime piracy and banditry worldwide increased slightly in 2020, with 375 events postponed, compared to 360 in 2019, according to the latest investigation report of the national navy. The Gulf of Guinea remains the most dangerous maritime area in the world. In Southeast Asia, banditry is increasing, particularly in the Straits of Singapore and Malacca. The number of acts of banditry in Latin America remains high against maritime commerce and pleasure boating.
