Two incidents off Nigeria

(B2) About 21 armed people in a speedboat pursued and fired on the morning of Tuesday (January 19) at a moving container ship, according to maritime sources. This happened about XNUMX nautical miles southwest of Bayelsa (Nigeria). The alarm was triggered and " non-essential crew then took refuge in the citadel. The boat increased its speed, the private guards on board returned fire. Which aborted the attack. The attacking skiff moved away. Ship and crew safe.

A few days earlier on January 16, in the early evening, another attack took place about 52 nautical miles southwest of Bonny Island. Five armed pirates in a small boat approached an en route tanker. The alarm was raised and the escape maneuvers began. The armed security team aboard the tanker fired warning shots. The pirates returned fire, but broke off the approach and drove away without asking for their rest.
