Relay to Operation Atalanta

(B2) Commodore José António Vizinha Mirones took command on Tuesday (3 December) of the European anti-piracy operation off the coast of Somalia (EUNAVFOR ATALANTA). Italian Admiral Armando Paolo Simi presented him with the baton of command.

He will serve aboard the Spanish flagship ESPS Victoria, an Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided missile frigate, with a new force headquarters. The Italian ship ITS Antonio Marceglia returning home. This is the 33rd rotation of the operation which started in 2008.

The force commander exercises command and control of the various military forces present in the area of ​​operations (airplanes, helicopters, ships) and is responsible for the planning, orchestration and execution of tactical military activities. He also contributes to operational planning which takes place at the Operations HQ in Rota, Cádiz.
