Franco-Italian naval maneuvers to protect Cyprus

(B2) The Surcouf (F-711), stealth light frigate of the La Fayette class, and the Federico Martinengo (F-596), an Italian multi-mission frigate from the Bergamini class, conducted exercises together with the Cypriot patrol boat Commodore Andreas Ionnades off Cyprus on December 12.

A maneuver dubbed 'Fritchy' reports the French Ministry of Defense. The three ships worked on their interoperability. NB: On the European side, it is clearly a political sign, as well as a military one, of solidarity with the island, and a warning to Ankara, with whom relations are currently strained. Drilling off Cyprus (1) as the signing of an economic waters delimitation agreement with Libya does not really help a peaceful neighborhood.

Faced with Turkish drilling off Cyprus, the Europeans pull out a (small) stick (v2)
