78 Libyan coastguards and sailors trained in Italy

(B2) A “Package 2” training module, started in early September in the Italian Navy training centers of La Maddalena (Sardinia) and Taranto (Apulia), for Libyan coastguards and sailors.

Basic Deck Officer, Mechanical Engineer and Electrical Engineer Officer courses will be provided for a total of 78 officers. The training will last 4 weeks and will end on September 27th.

NB: Since the signing of its memorandum of understanding with the Libyan coast guard and navy in 2016, the EU operation to combat trafficking in the Mediterranean (Sophia) has trained 417 Libyan coast guards and sailors. It plans to train 200 more by the end of the year in Croatia, Greece and Italy.
