An aerostat being tested over the Greek islands
(B2) The European Agency Frontex and the Greek Coast Guard have launched a month-long trial of an aerostat on the Greek island of Samos
This pilot project aims to assess the capability and cost-effectiveness of an aerostat for surveillance at sea. The aerostat will be piloted at various altitudes to test its use ” in different uses, in particular for “ detect unauthorized border crossings, support rescue operations at sea and fight cross-border crime indicates the agency which manages the brand new European body of border and coast guards.
The agency has already tested various technologies, including biometrics, automated border crossing barriers now used at international airports, as well as drones.
