Arriving in June, the Australian and Canadian experts will assist the Iraqi authorities in the implementation of security sector reform, alongside the Europeans. Each has his own specialty: the Australian is an expert in coordinating security sector reform, while the Canadian is a specialist in the fight against terrorism.

The deployment of experts from outside the Union is governed by bilateral agreements on participation in crisis management concluded between the EU and the countries concerned. It also falls within the context of a desire for greater collaboration between the European Union on the one hand, and Canada on the other.
