After contributing to respect for the rule of law in Kosovo for more than 10 years, EULEX Kosovo is turning an important page in its history. Between June and December 2018, EULEX Kosovo staff were responsible for preparing the handover of court and police files to local authorities. This involved the review of all files, the organization of documents in chronological order, the development of indexes, the translation into Albanian and Serbian, the preparation of transfer notes and the drafting of summaries, intended for the prosecution Kosovars.

In total, 495 police files concerning organized crime, 434 files concerning war crimes, missing persons, and finally, more than 1.400 legal proceedings files, which have been transferred to the Kosovo police and justice.

In accordance with the mission's new mandate, EULEX no longer incorporates prosecutors or judges into the Kosovo judicial system. The mission is thus deprived of any executive prerogative in judicial matters, except for a few residual powers. EULEX will now be content to monitor certain files, to accompany and support the Kosovar institutions, but no longer to advise or supervise them. His current term will end on June 14, 2020.
