The European Union has in fact delivered a first wave of equipment intended for the Malian forces who will participate in the G5 Sahel force responsible for stabilizing the area. This first delivery included 300 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE), including bulletproof vests, helmets, first aid kits and protective glasses. They will be used to strengthen the protection of the two Malian battalions belonging to the force during deployments in theaters of operation.

A step towards operationalization

A first delivery that “is an important step towards the operationalization of the joint force” as highlighted by the EU Ambassador to Mali Alain Holleville. This first delivery “ will be completed soon by the arrival of other equipment ", accompanied by " actions intended to strengthen trust between populations and security forces ". In total, 1050 sets of personal protective equipment will be given to the force's seven battalions from the different countries. Let us point out that Europeans can deliver all kinds of equipment, except weapons and ammunition.

NB: present during the handover of the equipment, on the Malian side, were Brigadier General Moustapha Drabo, head of the Directorate of Equipment, Hydrocarbons and Army Transport (DMHTA) of Mali, a representative of the European Union delegation in Mali, Benoit Cusin and the commander of EUTM Mali, Brigadier General Enrique Millán.
