First delivery of personal protective equipment to G5 Sahel forces

(B2) The European Union Delegation in Mali carried out, on 26 October, the first delivery of equipment financed by the EU to the Malian elements of the G5 Sahel joint force. Objective: the operationalization of this African force

The European Union has indeed delivered a first wave of equipment intended for the Malian forces which will participate in the G5 Sahel force responsible for stabilizing the area. This first delivery notably included 300 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE), including bulletproof vests, helmets, first aid kits and goggles. They will be used to reinforce the protection of the two Malian battalions belonging to the force during deployments in theaters of operation.

A step towards operationalization

A first delivery that "is an important step towards the operationalization of the joint force" as pointed out by the EU Ambassador to Mali Alain Holleville. This first delivery will soon be completed with the arrival of other equipment ", accompanied by " actions aimed at building trust between the population and the security forces ". In total, 1050 sets of personal protective equipment will be given to the seven battalions of the different countries of the force. Note that the Europeans can deliver all kinds of equipment, except arms and ammunition.

NB: were present during the delivery of the equipment, on the Malian side, Brigadier General Moustapha Drabo, head of the Department of Material, Hydrocarbons and Transport of the Armies (DMHTA) of Mali, a representative of the European Union delegation in Mali, Benoit Cusin and the Commander of EUTM Mali, Brigadier General Enrique Millán.
