Targeted in Yemen, the ICRC shelters part of its staff

(B2) The ICRC has decided to reduce its humanitarian activities in Yemen and evacuated 71 staff following new " incidents and threats ».

Threats, blockages, staff targeted

« In recent weeks, our activities have been blocked and our staff have been threatened and directly targeted explains the humanitarian organization in a communicated released Thursday (June 7). " While our delegation in Yemen has already suffered threats on numerous occasions in the past, we cannot accept that it exposes itself to additional risks in the current circumstances. ».

A desire for instrumentalization

And to add: There is clearly a desire to exploit our organization on the chessboard of the conflict ". Present in Yemen since 1962, the ICRC is today clearly targeted by the various parties to the conflict: one of its collaborators was assassinated last April (read: ICRC worker killed in Yemen).
