The press cartoon prize awarded to a Turkish cartoonist

(B2) The press cartoon prize was awarded on Thursday (May 3) to Turkish cartoonist Musa Kart, from the Cumjuriyet newspaper, by the foundation Cartooning for Peace and the city of Geneva. The International Press Cartoon Prize honors every two years press cartoonists in danger because of their art.

This Turkish cartoonist, who has been drawing for 25 years in the main opposition daily Cumhuriyet, was arrested with a dozen of his colleagues following the failed coup in Turkey in July 2016. Accused “ association with a terrorist organization », and after nine months in preventive detention and again nine long months of trial, the court of Silivri sentenced him to 3 years and nine months in prison. He is not imprisoned pending appeal procedures.
