The false death of Babchenko. A nice blow from the Ukrainian services… not without risk

(B2) The death of Ukrainian journalist Babchenko is fake news, staged by Ukrainian services. Vasyl Hrytsak, the leader of SBU, confirmed this today during a press conference given this afternoon at the SBU headquarters, Volodymyrska street in Kyiv.

An operation set up from scratch by the SBU

This operation was mounted by the SBU to foil and trap a Russian agent. A counter-espionage maneuver and (false) information into which all the media (including B2) and all human rights organizations fellMan, but also the OSCE, the European Parliament, the High Representative of the Union, etc.

Fake news that could turn against its authors

« I should have offered my condolences to the family, but on the contrary, I want to greet them… I would like to congratulate Arkady Babchenko on his 'third birthday' "said Vasyl Hrytsak, head of the SBU, according to theUkrainian news agency. A good joke that seems to make the men of the SBU laugh a lot, but which could quickly turn against them.

Schoolboy humor is sometimes difficult to share… By wanting to trap the Russians, they also trapped the international organizations (1) and all the journalists' associations which have, in recent hours, made statements condemning the incident. Above all, they demonstrated that the fake news could come from Moscow but also from Kiev. At the next assassination imputed or attributable to the Russians, they will have no trouble saying: it is the Ukrainians.

A mission to advise Europeans

We can also recall that the Europeans have set up an advisory mission in Kiev, EUAM Ukraine, responsible for advising, at the strategic and political level, the internal security forces, and in particular the SBUs (read our report on the spot , end of 2014: The Ukrainian “Services”: waging war and reforming, at the same time).

A question arises: should we continue to help the Ukrainian internal security forces?

It will be interesting to see whether the Europeans on the ground were involved in this manipulation, worthy of the Cold War, or were left in total ignorance. The second hypothesis being the most plausible. In any case, the question could arise of the relevance of European assistance and aid, including financial, to the Ukrainian security forces who are thus playing with fire.

(1) It can be noted that several foreign ministries did not rush to condemn the incident, remaining quite silent. A slow reaction or information passed on time between 'services', which could suggest that the Ukrainians had warned some Western chancelleries.
