Chinese escort for a WFP ship in the Indian Ocean

(B2) At the request of the Europeans, a Chinese warship escorted a World Food Program (WFP) ship in the middle of the Indian Ocean, we learned from the European force's headquarters in London.

The European operation EUNAFVOR Atalanta has indeed sent an escort request to the various international escort forces, " his own ship, the Spanish frigate ESPS Patiño, was involved in counter-piracy operations ". A request that was accepted by the Chinese navy, present in the area for several years.

It was the Yancheng frigate (746) from the 28th naval escort squadron which was dispatched to the scene to escort the Selin-M, a merchant ship carrying humanitarian supplies for the WFP from Port Sudan to Mombasa in Kenya across the Gulf of Aden. The mission has just been completed, on February 10, without incident. This support demonstrates good work coordination "between all the forces present in the region" to ensure the free movement and safe passage of commercial vessels around the Horn of Africa “, we underline at the HQ of the European operation.
