EUTM Mali trains Malian staff in Gao

(B2) Located 1200 km north of Bamako, Gao has become a strategic enclave in the fight against terrorism. To train Malian soldiers in the face of this threat, a team of European instructors from EUTM Mali went there for the second time. The three-week training ended on Sunday (August 20).

Focus on the training of young officers

Infantry, first medical aid as well as the fight against mines and improvised explosive devices (IED) were at the heart of the training of six sections of the 1st Military Region of Gao. Responding to a Malian request, the training focused on young group leaders, platoon commanders and staff officers.

A training " and Assistance was given to them, explains EUTM, in particular in “ logistics, in operational communication in electronic information system ". Young non-commissioned officers and officers also received courses in command and law.

The fifth formation of its kind

After Kati, Ségou and Sikasso, this is the second time that EUTM Mali has provided a "Combined Mobile Advisory and Training Team (CMATT)" (read : EUTM Mali carries out its first consultancy and training mission in Gao). These training courses relocated to the Malian regions respond to a new function of the third mandate of the European mission (read: To rebuild the FAMA, focus on companies and academies (General Devogelaere)).
