What is the outcome of Operation Sophia (EUNAVFOR Med) so far?

(B2) According to the latest report communicated by the European maritime operation in the Mediterranean against human smugglers and traffickers (EUNAVFOR Med / Sophia), as of December 31, 2016:

222 relief operations at sea have been carried out since the start of the operation, helping 31.899 migrants.

372 ships, used by traffickers, have been destroyed.

101 individuals suspected of trafficking have been handed over to the Italian authorities for questioning and, possibly, trial.
