(B2) The Belgian defense will recruit regularly in the coming years... More than 1000 people will thus be recruited in 2017. With an emphasis on recruiting young women. Minister Steven Vandeput indicated this during a press conference on October 4th.

Stereotypes that die hard

Since 1975, and the entry of the first woman to join the military ranks, " Many things have changed “We underline the defense. " But stereotypes die hard and the balance is still heavily affected ". The rate of female staff still only reached 8% of the total workforce in 2016.

Massive retirements = more recruitment

Recruitment in the coming years should be “substantial”, in order to compensate for “ massive retirements ". A total of 1160 recruitments are planned for 2017, including 130 officers, 600 non-commissioned officers and 430 soldiers and sailors. The Defense is looking for motivated young people, not shrinking from effort, loving adventure and ready to accept measured risks » as the official doxa specifies.
