A Charlemagne prize to the Pope for lack of Deus ex machina for Europe
(B2) Giving the Charlemagne Prize to Pope Francis was undoubtedly a rich idea. If François the Argentinian undoubtedly deserved the title of convinced European, this price leaves a bitter taste.
Above all, it shows that we no longer know who to really award the Charlemagne prize to today. It testifies to a weakness in both European thinking. No need to accuse Putin, Cameron or Orban... The truth is that there is no imagination among our European politicians worthy of the prize except God and his servant for Europe. But also a lack of dynamics.
Even if it means awarding the Charlemagne Prize to Europeans who defend a certain vision of Europe, which is more generous than it is today, why not award it to organizations like Doctors Without Borders or Doctors of the World who , every day, fight to save some European values.
