Pirate attack in the red sea

(B2) A merchant ship was reportedly approached very closely (a few hundred meters) by two suspicious skiffs in the Red Sea, near Al Luhayyah in Yemen, on Tuesday (December 30). On one of the skiffs were 6 men, weapons and a ladder, according to maritime sources. The ship was able to escape from its pursuers and is safe and sound.

NB: Such an act by Somali pirates this far in the Red Sea is rather rare. It could just as well be a false alarm, an attack by Eritreans or even reconverted Yemeni fishermen.
