(B2) Despite the announcement of a ceasefire, on September 5, civilians continue to be killed, illegally detained, tortured and disappear in eastern Ukraine, according to the office's latest monitoring report of Human Rights, published this Thursday (20 November).

957 recorded deaths

Since the ceasefire, between September 6 and November 18, 957 deaths have been recorded - 838 men and 119 women - (*). In total, since the start of the conflict in eastern Ukraine in mid-April, at least 4317 people have been killed (**) and 9921 injured. And now is not the time for optimism. " The situation in the conflict-affected area is increasingly blocked, with the total breakdown of public order and the emergence of parallel systems of governance of the self-proclaimed people's republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.

A reduction by half which remains significant

If we look at these figures, we observe that there is a division by 2 of the number of killed per day passing before the ceasefire from a ratio of 21 per day approximately (***) to a ratio of 13 deaths per day on average, which nevertheless remains very high.

(**) This figure includes the 298 victims of flight MH17. Read : MH17 crash. The guilty, the responsible. As a European problem too! However, it does not include undeclared victims, in particular Russian soldiers on a "sports walk" (to use the expression of a Russian official) in eastern Ukraine.
