When Croatia annexes Vojvodina… The approximate art of maps

CarteUEConsoCroatie@E(BRUXELLES2) The latest map released by the DG Consumers of the European Commission, describing the European consumer network seems trivial in absolute terms. Colours, country names in the original language, the presence of countries that are not from the EU but do participate in the European “Consumer” network… Everything seems to be in order.

A cartographic annexation

But when you look at the map carefully on the side of the Balkans, an absurdity, a disconcerting error is obvious. Croatia indeed extends to Romania, including Vojvodina… which, until further notice, is an integral part of Serbia.

Under the responsibility of a Croatian commissioner

A point that could not be more “embarrassing” when you know that the Commissioner responsible for DG Consumers is precisely… the Croatian, Neven Mimica (who has been appointed Commissioner for Development in the future Commission). When we know the regional sensitivities and the antecedent, still painful, for Belgrade of Kosovo, there are “errors” which could be taken for a political will. A “political” correction is therefore urgently needed…
