The EU condemns the murder of Camille Lepage and calls for an investigation

(BRUSSELS2) The European Union reacted through the spokesperson for Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the EU, to the death of our colleague Camille Lepage in the Central African Republic (CAR).

Make every effort to identify and judge the perpetrators

After presenting her "condolences to her family and loved ones and expressing our full support to them in this ordeal", the High Representative " condemn(E) firmly this heinous murder which follows other attacks on freedom of the press, such as the recent assassination of two Central African journalists ". She calls " to do everything possible to ensure that the perpetrators of these assassinations are identified and tried”.

Freedom of the press: a value of democracy

« The European Union remains determined to defend all journalists in the exercise of their profession and in respect of its values. Freedom and independence of the press are essential to democracy, the rule of law and the promotion of good governance she concludes.
