(BRUSSELS2) Command and logistics units are deploying in Bangui and preparing the rise of the European force EUFOR RCA, the EU military committee confirmed a few hours ago. These are the first as such of the operation.

General Lion, who commands the force headquarters (FHQ) of the EUFOR RCA mission, arrived in Bangui on Saturday April 5 with an initial core of around twenty people. For the moment, this is what we call in military terms a staff “harpoon” which will then make it possible to “ contribute to the rise of EUFOR”.

For their part, the 55 French gendarmes already present in Bangui remain, for the moment, under French command of Operation Sangaris. They will switch to the European force, “ When the time comes ", when the entire European command structure will be in place, General Ponties, commander of the EUFOR RCA operation, told us. The initial operational capability of the mission (IOC) should normally be declared at the end of April. This will mark the operational “start” of the mission. As for full operational capability (FOC), according to information received by B2, it will not be declared before the end of June.
