When Victoria “fucks” Europe. Or Cow Friendship (Update)

(BRUSSELS2) Several conversations between American diplomats on the one hand, European diplomats on the other, have filtered on Youtube, as informed by the Kyiv Post.

We distinctly hear, on one of them, Victoria Nuland, responsible for the US Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, in conversation with his counterpart in kyiv, regretting European indecision and advocating “sticking” the UN special representative, Robert Serry, in the paws. And added: “And you know, fuck the EU.” (in the third minute) It's concise but it has the merit of being clear.

American apologies

A word that the Secretary of State does not deny. According to spokesperson Jen Psaki, Ambassador Nuland apologized to her European partners for the word “ obviously, we work incredibly closely with the EU and with representatives of the EU, and Assistant Secretary Nuland certainly does as it relates to Ukraine. And she's been in close contact with EU High Representative Ashton. Let me convey that she (V. Nuland) has been in contact with her EU counterparts, and of course, has apologized”.

On the other, we hear the political director of the European Diplomatic Service (EEAS), Helga Schmid, who recognizes a slight difference in approach with the United States in a discussion (in German) that she has with the ambassador of the EU in Ukraine, Jam Tombinski, believing that the EU is not seen enough as “defending freedom” while the United States defends sanctions. It's not " good for history ».

Comments : apparently it is not only Americans who have an NSA :) And the revelation of these conversations, publicly available on YouTube, can also be interpreted as a signal from the Ukrainian services or even the Russians that everything is “known”, that the conversations are “under control”. A warning of sorts, kindly, that other conversations, more sensitive, perhaps could “come out”. They will force European and American diplomats to be even more careful in their conversations and drive a wedge into the US-USA agreement on this issue.

Fundamental question: how to translate “fuck the EU”. “Fuck the EU” (as translated by the main news reports or more blunt terminologies, such as “I enc… the EU“, opinions may differ. Personally the “Fuck the EU“, seems to me to be a more appropriate transcription (given the fairly common use of “fuck” in everyday American language)... In your opinion!
