(BRUSSELS2) The four Somali pirates who had captured a fishing dhow, the MT Sherry September 20, 2010, have just been sentenced in Mombasa.

The Mombasa court effectively sentenced Noor Ali Mohammed, Abdirahman Isse Mohamud, Mohammed Osman Farah and Feisal Abdi Muse to 23 years in prison on October 7. They had been arrested on September 24 by the Spanish soldiers of the Galicia who participated in the EUNAVFOR Atalanta mission. Which was one of the last deliveries of pirates by the European navies, Kenya then suspending the agreement signed with the European Union

The interested parties had initially contested through their lawyer, Maitre Magolo, their incarceration, considering that it was illegal under Kenyan law. The Mombasa High Court dismissed their complaint on May 31, 2011. During the trial, the defendants then pleaded not guilty. They will have to serve their sentence in Kenya. In his judgment, the Kenyan magistrate refused to allow them to serve their sentence in Somalia but ordered that they be deported to Somalia at the end of their sentence. They have already served 3 years in Somali prisons.
