The Italian Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs, Mario Mauro and Emma Bonino, on Wednesday (30 October) asked the High Representative of the European Union, Catherine Ashton to explore all options for possible action by the 'European Union within the framework of the Common Security and Defense Policy'in order to fight against human trafficking and to discourage criminal organizations”, facilitating illegal immigration, according to our information. A unanimous decision

This subject could be put on the agenda of the next Council of Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministers of the European Union, on November 18 and 19.

A request examined with caution by the High Representative. As its spokesperson explains, the European Diplomatic Service (EEAS) “ works actively to evaluate possible actions in close collaboration with Member States. (And) any decision relating to a CSDP mission (must be) taken by the Member States unanimously. »

The Italian ministers also ask the High Representative to include the fight against human trafficking in negotiations with countries of origin or transit, mainly in Africa. This issue could be put on the agenda of the next EU-Africa summit in spring 2014.
