Death of a Lithuanian from EUPOL Copps in the West Bank (update)

(BRUSSELS2) A Lithuanian member of Eupol Copps (European police mission in the Palestinian territories), died on Saturday (26 October) in a road accident in the West Bank. According to information obtained by B2, the accident took place while the agent was traveling with relatives, in a private car. The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes for its part that this accident had nothing to do directly with the mission. The vehicle would have fallen into the ravine (for a reason still unknown); the victim was on the side of the car which was completely crushed under the weight. Local police are investigating. The Diplomatic Service (EEAS) expressed its sadness at the tragedy.

NB: This is the second time, in a few weeks, that a Lithuanian has lost his life within the framework of a European mission, although the circumstances of the two tragedies are different. On September 19, a member of the European mission in Kosovo (Eulex) died, mortally wounded by a gunshot in northern Kosovo. Read : Shooting against EULEX in northern Kosovo: one dead
