(BRUSSELS2) An American ship, flying the flag of Sierra Leone, was boarded by the Indian Navy on Saturday (October 11), 15 nautical miles from the port of Tuticorin (in the state of Tamil Nadu), according to our colleagues from the Times of India today.

Le MV Seaman Guard Ohio is suspected by Indian authorities to be a vessel of a private security agency. A report for illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. 31 rifles and semi-automatic weapons were found on board and approximately 5000 rounds of ammunition. The ship has a crew of 10 crew and 25 guards. Among them, 20 Europeans (6 British, 14 Estonians), 3 Ukrainians and 12 Indians (including veterans of the navy and the Indian army).

Seaman Guard is a subsidiary of AdvanFort, an American company specializing in ship protection and counter-piracy. Besides the USA, it is established in Estonia and the UK and boasts of having former British and US special operations military personnel, as well as NATO security specialists.

The Indians had arrested and charged 2 Italian riflemen serving on the Enrica Lexie with murder after two Indian fishermen were shot dead (read: Italian flip-flop. The Maros return to India)
