(BRUSSELS2, exclusive) A new force generation conference is due to take place next week in Brussels to staff the Malian army training mission (EUTM Mali) from July. For this next rotation, everyone is cautiously “optimistic”. Because solutions are about to be found for the two elements - force protection and medical support -, which had "blocked" during the first generation of force.

Force protection: solutions

The "protection force" should continue to be provided in Bamako by the Czech paratroopers In Koulikoro, the French should withdraw, replaced by the Spaniards - who have just arrived and should be further reinforced - and Belgians who should arrive at the end of June . A decision of principle has already been taken in Brussels in kern (restricted council of ministers) at the end of March. It must still be endorsed by a Council of Ministers. The cost being evaluated (according to our information) between 2,1 million euros (net) and 3,5 million euros (gross).

Medical support: you don't change a winning team

For medical support, there is apparently no problem. The German field hospital (Role 2) installed in Koulikoro is there for 12 months. And for the medical evacuation capacity (Medevac), the Belgian helicopters should continue their mission after June. " The extension is almost automatic. unless otherwise advised, a case specialist told B2.

Trainers: offers

As for trainers, there are rather “ more offers than positions an officer told B2. Several countries have thus expressed their desire either to renew their contribution or to make a new contribution. Thus the Czechs, in addition to their participation in the "protection force", have indicated that they want to provide (specialized) instructors.
