American support has been made in Somalia as well

(BRUSSELS) In a letter to the speaker of the Chamber and to the acting president of the Senate, US President Obama also confirmed on Sunday (January 13) US support for the operation to free a French hostage. " The United States provided limited technical support to the French forces in this operation but did not take a direct part in the assault on the camps, where the French citizen was believed to be held hostage. A US fighter jet briefly entered Somali airspace to support the relief operation, if needed. This aircraft did not use any weapons during the operation. (...) The US forces supporting this operation left Somalia on Saturday (January 11) at 8 a.m. (New York time), or midnight (Somalia time).

NB: According to information from my colleague Jean Guisnel, an American plane actually has a "radio picket" "to ensure transmissions between the command post installed on the Mistral positioned very far beyond the horizon and the helicopters sent to the locality of Bulomarer" (read his detailed report here).
