Failed attempt to free Mv Iceberg 1 hostages (update)

(BRUSSELS2) Three pirates were reportedly killed on Monday (December 10) during a raid by Puntland forces against the captors of the Mv Iceberg 1. The pirates have been holding the crew of the Mv Iceberg 1 hostage for almost three years near Ga’raad. They then escorted a motor boat providing supplies in arms and food and ammunition to their "colleagues" remaining on board Mv Iceberg 1. The objective of the Puntland forces was " to seize the boat and stop the pirates” a Puntland force official told the Associated Press. But this attempt failed ". Puntland forces have established a blockade around the boat for ten days.

In the balance sheet, three pirates were killed during the exchange of fire. We do not know the balance sheet on the side of the Puntland forces. Three others were arrested as well as seized weaponry (5 AK-47 rifles, 1 PKM machine gun and thousands of ammunition). 4 Puntland soldiers were injured during this action, according to a statement from the authorities received by B2.
