Brussels closely observes the establishment of Serbo-Kosovar border posts
(BRUXELLES2) Following the question carefully, Catherine Ashton said to herself "rejoiced» progress made in the working group on "integrated border management" (IBM) between Kosovo and Serbia. The group met on Tuesday 18 December to agree on the few technical problems that had arisen after the opening of the first two joint border checkpoints at Jarinje and Merdare. "The High Representative expects that the agreement reached yesterday will allow a smooth functioning of the two common control points opened on December 10 and the opening of two additional points before the end of the yearsaid the diplomatic service via Ms. Ashton's spokesperson.
While the 27 are still awaiting further improvements between the two countries before they can move forward with their respective accession timetables, “the EU expects the two parties to continue discussing all unresolved issues, whenever they arise, within the context of the European dialogue to normalize relations". The IBM working group will meet again on January 10, 2013 in order to prepare the bilateral meeting between Prime Ministers Dacic and Thaçi which will take place on January 17.
