French Minister of Defense visits Brussels

(BRUSSELS2, exclusive) Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Minister of Defense, should end the first part of his European tour in Brussels, intended to “revitalize Defense Europe” according to his preferred term. It will be September 3, as readers of B2 club have already been able to learn it. A day which should include a relatively busy schedule for both the Schuman district (European Union) and Boulevard Leopold (NATO). On the EU side, a meeting is planned with the various officials: the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, the President of the European Commission, José-Manuel Barroso, and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Catherine Ashton. Which suggests that it will not only be the points of defense that can be addressed. Le Drian is close enough to F. Hollande and J.-M Ayrault to be the discreet missi dominici of other questions, both political and economic. The European Defense Agency will also be an obligatory meeting for a minister who is keen, above all, on European industrial consolidation. On the NATO side, Jean-Yves le Drian will have a meeting with the Secretary General, AF Rasmussen, and the various leaders of the Alliance.
