A new commander at KFOR

(B2) A German general will lead the NATO forces in Kosovo. Volker Halbauer will take office on September 7, replacing his compatriot, the General Erhard Drews. Aged 56 (he was born in 1955), he is now Chief of Staff of the Army in charge of personnel. He took various commands and made several stays abroad. After a stay in the United States, between 1991 and 1992 in the American army in Fort leavenworth, Kansas, he was part of UNOSOM II as head of the German contingent engaged in Somalia. He also served as Chief of Staff of the 10th Armored Division in Sigmaringen and as Commander of the 1st Airmobile Brigade (Luftbewegliche Brigade 1) from 2006 to 2008.
