The Cypriot presidency wants to push the reflection on European defence. His diary
(BRUSSELS2 to Nicosia) Although a "small" country, Cyprus participates in most European Union missions. And during his presidency, he intends to push the common European defense and security policy (PeSDC). A series of conferences and seminars will punctuate the coming months.
Further reflection on European Defence, strategy and capabilities
The Cypriots want to focus as much on defense policy as on capabilities. A seminar is thus organized on October 30 in Brussels entitled "on the road with the CSDP. Planning and conduct (of operations), capacities, strategy".
Two other seminars will focus more specifically on capacities. One in Brussels, on September 19, in cooperation with the European Defense Agency and the Egmont Institute around the "innovative" cooperation in defense "Pooling and consolidating demand". The other in Paphos, on October 18 and 19, on how to improve the process of developing military capabilities. A Headline task force workshop will also be held at this time.
Two seminars on maritime safety are organized: one in Paris on September 6, the other in Larnaca (one of the main ports of the island) on November 8 and 9.
Olympics
Original point, Cyprus has started the PeSDC "Olympics". Bringing together the "cadets" of the various European armies, it begins first with a series of distance learning, via the internet. At the end of this training, students will have to work on a study related to CSDP subjects. And everything will end in Paphos, on October 4 and 5, by the sea (a very beautiful place, I recommend 🙂 ), with the presentation of the essays by the students and the awarding of prizes for the best of them. by the EU and the Cypriot Ministry of Defence. The essays will then be compiled into a book.
Battlegroups and Athena Committee
More traditional meetings will also take place. After the informal meeting of defense directors (in Nicosia which has just ended on July 4 and 5), it will be the turn of the (financial) experts of the Athena committee to meet in Larnaca on September 20 and 21. The members of the EU military committee are expected on October 11 and 12 in Larnaca. While the battlegroup coordination conference will take place on September 19... in Brussels and the intelligence directors will be in a "conclave" on November 13, also in Brussels!
