Seychelles Anti-Piracy Unit

(B2) A first anti-piracy unit was inaugurated in Mahé in the Seychelles on June 4. Funded by the European Union to the tune of 2 million euros, as part of the MASE regional maritime security program implemented by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), it will ultimately bring together experts in maritime piracy from five IOC Member States from various fields (penitentiary / military / police / legal / judicial). The Mase program takes place over five years and is allocated 37,5 million euros. It aims to strengthen coordination capacities, information exchange and criminal justice systems to prosecute and detain arrested pirates.
