Incident in Gali (Abkhazia), the European mission worries

(B2) After the recent incidents that shook Gali, the European Observer Mission (EUMM) expressed its “ concern ».

Two men armed with Kalashnikovs entered a cafe shooting and killing two policemen and a civilian in this village located in Abkhazia near the "border" with the rest of Georgia. EUMM is ready to act if necessary and to deploy a fact finding team.

“Such acts of violence are unacceptable and can only lead to destabilization” explains the head of the mission in a press release. EUMM called for the " detention " allowing to " preserve the local population of the Gali region”.

NB: The European observers did not have the authorization of the local (and Russian) authorities to deploy inside this region which declared its autonomy and then its independence from Georgia. But the situation has so far been rather calm on the "border" between the two entities.
