In Mali, like a taste of bitterness

(BRUXELLES2, opinion) What is currently happening in Mali has such a taste of predictability that one cannot retain a certain bitterness. It was certain that by inflicting a defeat on Colonel Gaddafi's supporters and by leaving the Libyan border porous in 2011, arms transfers would take place there quickly. It is thus a gross error, in my opinion, of the strategists of NATO as of the EU, not to have had enough political will to deploy on this border, an observation mission, able to note and control the movements of men and materials. It is also certain that by letting a CSDP operation drag on in the Sahel, we have not really arranged the circuit. Certain prudent minds will no doubt judge that "fortunately, the European Union has not been too quick". She "would be on the front line today". Admittedly... Other more daring minds will be able to estimate that by having a more determined action, and more quickly, whereas it is almost two years that we "study" the opportunity of a European mission in the region. .. A mess !
